Many believe that just by consuming or administering medication, it will automatically treat to the spot that needs healing. However, our bodies are much more complex than that. Bioavailability is a word that has created a lot of buzz in the wellness industry.
Why Do We Need a Carrier Oil for CBD?
Bioavailability (BA) is a term used in pharmacology, nutritional and environmental sciences, which refers to the degree and rate at which a substance is absorbed by the body’s circulatory system. One factor that will affect the rate of bioavailability is what it is consumed with. We know that some nutrients, when consumed together support each other’s bioavailability. For example, calcium is best absorbed when it’s consumed alongside magnesium. Consuming vitamin C with plant-based, iron-rich food enhances the bioavailability of iron.
So what does this have to do with your CBD tincture?
Some things simply need to be carried to get from point A to point B. In order for people or pets to reap the optimum benefits of CBD, it needs to be carried. What CBD is consumed with will affect how much and at what rate CBD absorbs in your body. CBD comes in two raw forms, both of which are less than ideal for dose specific ingestion and systemic absorption. The first, CBD Isolate, is a crystallized material similar to salt. The raw material of isolate is not easily processed by the body if ingested without a carrier oil resulting in poor digestion. The second, full spectrum CBD, has a very thick and sticky consistency, making measuring a proper consistent serving size difficult, leading to inefficient and wasteful use of the product. CBD is fat soluble. This means that when CBD is combined with a fat such as MCT or Hemp Seed Oil, the CBD can dissolve and attach to the fat molecules (in the oil) which makes it much more available for your body to digest, absorb and use. Furthermore, diluting CBD in a carrier oil makes it easier to measure the dosage and make sure that you get the maximum benefit from the product. There are different types of carrier oils producers like to use, each with their own benefits and effectiveness. Below we will explain the types of carrier oils King Tuts uses in their
CBD tinctures and how they may have an impact on your health. One type might be better for you than the other.
What Is MCT Oil? And Why Is It Used with CBD?
MCT oil is short for Medium Chain Triglyceride oil. Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are a specific fat molecule found in oils, such as coconut and palm oil. (King Tuts uses fractionated MCT oil derived from coconuts #earthlove). MCTs work differently on the metabolism than other oils such as olive and avocado oil. Compared to larger fat molecules found in these other oils, MCTs can be broken down and metabolized by the body quickly and more efficiently due to their smaller size by going directly to the liver where they are easier to digest and absorb. Since we know that CBD is fat soluble, fractionated coconut oil (MCT) is a very effective carrier for CBD because it contains 90% saturated fat. Also, the small molecular size results in a low viscosity substance, making the oil thin and therefore ideal for dosing. Since the fractionated oil has no flavor or smell, it is favored by many as the best carrier oil for sublingual use. Apart from its supportive qualities to CBD, MCT oil has proven very effective for people who struggle with low energy, poor digestive health, obesity, hormonal fluctuations, slow metabolism, dementia, diabetes, and inflammatory conditions, as well as those who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
Energy Booster
With a strong metabolism, you also have healthy energy levels. Instead of more than 20 steps that sugar takes to become energy, C-8 medium-chain fatty acids can be converted to usable energy in only 3 steps, giving your body rapid support and invigorating energy.
Improves Gut Health / Digestion
MCT oil has anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial qualities that can optimize digestion and balance the environment of your gut flora, helping to prevent symptoms of cramping, bloating and constipation, as well as any parasitic or viral infections.
Weight Management
When you ingest more MCTs, your body becomes more efficient at mobilizing fat stores as energy. As a result, the body will begin breaking down its own fat to power ordinary, everyday functions. (Which means quicker weight loss!) However, it should be noted — to lose excess body weight healthfully and permanently, it takes patience and quality upgrades to your overall eating and exercise habits.
Hormones
One of the most critical roles of fats in the body #nopunintended is their role in creating hormones. Adding MCTs in your diet will help make those hormones you need to keep your mood in place, your metabolism high, and prevent depression and hormonal upset.
Brain Function
In healthy individuals, glucose supplies almost all of the brain’s energy. However, in certain patient populations (e.g. those with or developing Alzheimer’s disease, type II diabetics) the ability of the brain to use glucose is impaired. Ketones are an alternative energy source for the brain and might be able to compensate for this impairment.

I’ve never tried it myself but know someone who uses it all the time (MTC oil and tinctures) to great success. I wish it was cheaply available to all with medical needs.
Have been using CBD oil for myself , my wife and pets for a couple of yrs now and we all notice the difference in our health. Your pets have less pain and our older dog’s sight has improved.
Big difference between full spectrum and isolate?
Nice read, interesting properties for the hemp seed oil. Thanks
This was one of the best articles I have read on this subject. I was not aware of some of the additional properties of each of the carrier oils and I suspect i will end up trying a bottle of each to compare. Thanks!
Definitely going to look into tinctures now! Great info as always
